         <description><![CDATA[    Acorn-Plantos Award
    for People's Poetry
    
    In memory of Milton Acorn and Ted Plantos
    
    
    Deadline: June 30, 2007
    
    The Acorn-Plantos Award for People's Poetry is presented annually to a
    Canadian poet based on a book published in the previous calendar year (in
    the present case, 2006).
    
    The work should follow in the tradition of Acorn, Livesay, Purdy, Plantos,
    and others by being accessible to all people in its use of language and
    image.
    
    The award is open to any living poet who is a Canadian citizen or landed
    immigrant. The work may be entered by the poet or the publisher. The award
    itself honours the poet.
    
    The award consists of $500 (Canadian) and a medallion.
    
    Entry fee: $25 per title.
    
    Send entry fee plus five (5) copies of the book to the address below.

         <title>Nancy Shaw: May 24th, 1962 - April 16th, 2007</title>
         <description><![CDATA[    Nancy Shaw born May 24th, 1962, died early Monday morning April 16th, 
    2007. A founding member of the Kootenay School of Writing in 
    Vancouver, Shaw authored Affordable Tedium (Tsunami 1991) and 
    Scoptocratic (ECW Press 1992). She also collaborated on several 
    chapbooks with Catriona Strang, including Busted (Coach House Books 
    2001, <a href="http://www.chbooks.com">http://www.chbooks.com</a>.) and most recently Cold Trip (Nomados 
    2006). In addition, Shaw was a visual artist, curator and wrote for 
    various art catalogues.
    
    A service will be held in Vancouver at St.Andrew's-Wesley Church, 
    1022 Nelson Ave. at 1:00 PM, Saturday April 21, 2007. Instead of 
    flowers, please donate to the BC Cancer Fund.

General info: the ottawa small press book fair noon to 5pm (opens at 11am
for exhibitors)

admission free to the public. $20 for exhibitors (payable to rob mclennan,
c/o 858 Somerset St W, main floor, Ottawa Ontario K1R 6R7). full tables
only. for catalog, exhibitors should send (on paper, not email name of
press, address, email, web address, contact person, type of publications,
list of publications (with price), if submissions are being considered &
any other pertinent info, including upcoming ottawa-area events (if any).

also, due to the increased demand for table space, exhibitors are asked to
confirm far earlier than usual. i.e. -- before, say, the day of the fair.
the fair usually contains exhibitors with poetry books, novels, cookbooks,
posters, t-shirts, graphic novels, comic books, magazines, scraps of
paper, gum-ball machines with poems, 2x4s with text, etc. happens twice a
year, started in 1994 by rob mclennan & James Spyker. now run by rob
mclennan thru span-o.

free things can be mailed for fair distributionto the same address. we
will not be selling things for folk who cant make it, sorry.

also, always looking for volunteers to poster, move tables, that sort of
thing. let me know if anyone able to do anything. thanks.

         <title>STREET: Call for Submissions</title>
         <description><![CDATA[    STREET, an exciting new form of urban publication, is calling for 
    submissions to issue #6. STREET lifts the prose and poetry of our 
    community from the printed page and puts it on the streets of the 
    International Village, in central Hamilton. From Wellington to Mary, 
    on King and Main Streets East and King William Street, the "pages" of 
    STREET is framed and displayed in the windows of area businesses.
    
    Sponsored by the International Village BIA and Kairos Literary 
    Society, STREET is a periodical reflecting urban experience, with 4 
    issues planned for 2007. More information about STREET and how to

    Submission Guidelines
    
    Poetry should be a maximum of 30 lines, including line breaks. Prose 
    submissions should be a maximum of 400 words. Previously published 
    works will be accepted. STREET is looking for writing that reflects 
    the varied and vibrant lifestyle of the urban community. All 
    submissions must be suitable for posting in a public place. 
    Contributors whose works are accepted will be paid a $20.00 honorarium.
    
    Selected submissions will also be published in a limited-edition 
    booklet available to contributors and through the International 
    Village BIA office.

         <description><![CDATA[the third issue of ottawater (<a href="http://www.ottawater.com">www.ottawater.com</a>/), an Ottawa poetry pdf
annual, edited by rob mclennan, is now online.

The third issue features work by various residents current and former,
including: 

Michael Blouin, Terry Ann Carter, Anita Dolman, Amanda Earl, William
Hawkins, Elisabeth Harvor, Clare Latremouille, K.L. McKay, rob mclennan,
Nadine McInnis, Max Middle, Cath Morris, John Newlove, Wanda O'Connor, Kim
Minkus, Roland Prevost and Kate Van Dusen, interviews with poets K.I.
Press, Stephen Brockwell and Shane Rhodes, and reviews of work by Laura
Farina, Anita Lahey, Matthew Holmes, Monty Reid, Max Middle, Stephanie
Bolster, Nicholas Lea and Jesse Ferguson as well as artwork by various
Ottawa artists.

The launch party for the third issue will be happening Friday, January
26th, 2006 at the Mercury Lounge, 56 Byward Street, Ottawa, from 8pm to
10pm, lovingly hosted by rob mclennan. After short readings by various
contributors, stick around for a drink, and listen to resident dj Lance
Baptiste spin the night away.
