The Alice Munro Festival of Writing - got official permission from the author to name the event. It takes place on the Saturday in July closest to her birthday (July 10) This year it is July 9, 2005. The festival begins with a short story writing contest whose deadline is a month before the festival - this year's deadline is June 9, 2005. Prizes are $200, $100 and $50 plus being published in the Wingham Advance-Times.

On the day, we begin with a writing workshop at the Wingham Library. This year's workshop is on memoir writing. It runs from 10 am to 12. At 1:30 pm, there are author readings at the North Huron Museum (beside which is located the Alice Munro Literary Garden). Three area published authors read from their work, then the winners of the short story contest are announced and their work read. A local publisher, Brucedale Press, has their table at the event.

For more information contact Jodi Jerome at North Huron Museum - 519-357-1096. or at nhdmuseum@wightman.ca
