"Hammered Out" (Hamilton's New Poetry Journal) is seeking submissions, sponsors, advertisers and subscribers. Issue #3 will appear in May 2004 and will consist of 500 copies to be distributed (for free pick-up so people will actually read it) in libraries, art galleries, book stores and coffee shops in Hamilton and area. The deadline for submissions for #3 is April 1, 2004 (cheques payable to F. Ward).
Ad space costs $20 for a standard business card sized space or $50 for a half page. Other sizes and options (ie. inserts) are negotiable. Subscriptions are $10 a year (3 issues...January/May/September). For a sample copy send $5. (There are VERY few copies of Issue #1 left. Issue #2 appears January 2004.)
Poetry submission guidelines: Poems must be good. Other than that they can be long (within reason) or short and varying in style and theme. The guidelines have been relaxed to include submissions from those other than the dedicated inhabitants of these "mean streets", i.e. those who are connected to Hamilton in some way other than taxationally. Poets who grew up in Hamilton; poets who studied/study in Hamilton; poets who love Hamilton; poets who hate Hamilton; poets who come to Hamilton once a month to attend workshops and readings alongside their Hamilton comrades, driving all this way in all types of weather and even paying for parking! (It seems just too cruel to deny them)
In other words, Hamilton remains the binding thread but I've decided not to be a "nazi" about it. (By the way, the poems do not have to actually be ABOUT Hamilton.)
PLEASE include a brief bio with submission (no more than 100 words...and mention your connection to Hamilton)
