Seaweed
Seaweed can be bushy or stringy, lumpy or smooth, or long or short. There are thousands of different kinds of seaweed, but there are three main groups: green, brown, and red. Seaweed has no roots or real stems or leaves.
The parts that look like stems are called stipes. Stipes can bend easily when the water is moving really fast. The parts that look like roots are called holdfasts. Holdfasts helps seaweed attach itself seaweed to rocks and other hard things.
The parts that look like leaves are called blades. Blades help seaweed collect light so it can make food. Some kinds of seaweed also have air sacs that act like floating balloons. Air sacs help hold the seaweed's blade's up to the light.
Seaweed is very important to many animals. It can be food, a place to lay eggs, or a place to hide from enemies. Even humans need seaweed for many things like food and medicine.
