With the help of the Langara College Biology lab, I was able to take these microscopy photos from Granville Island soil samples. The same soil was then used to create a series of drawings, referencing these images. Spending ample time on the Island for both school and leisure, I was curious about the many discarded objects - remnants of tourism and the consumer. Looking closely, I began to see thousands of tiny bits of plastic and other random objects. Using these materials in my art work, I also developed an appreciation for the underlying soil and decided to investigate its properties and potential for drawing.
